Sažetak
Immediately after exposure of rats to ether stress, the activation of hypothalamic glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) and the unchanged concentration of hypothalamic GABA were observed. This suggests that ether stress activates the hypothalamic GABA system. Both diazepam (10 mg/kg) and ether stress elevated plasma corticosterone, but the exposure of diazepam-pretreated rats to ether stress failed to produce a further rise in plasma corticosterone concentration. The administration of GABA receptor antagonists - picrotoxin and bicuculline, produced even greater increase of plasma corticosterone concentration. Corticosterone level in rats pretreated with picrotoxin and exposed to ether stress was higher than after ether stress itself, but still did not differ from that measured after the drug treatment alone.
