Sažetak
Older studies have suggested that the incidence of the inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is relatively more common in developed then in developing countries. The highest incidence rate of IBD have been reported from the UK, Scandinavia and North Ameriva with lower rates reported in Central and Southern Europe. In order to test the existance of such a gradient, 20 uropean centres during a two years period identified patients with IBD prospectively using the uniform diagnostic approach. There was no geografical gradient for Crohn's disease(CD)but a weak postive association was present for ulcerative colitis(UC). In 1990.'s in Mediterranean countries(Italy, Greece and Spain)the incidence of IBD was as great or greater then in some countries in the north. The only Croatian study done in Zagreb county showed the incidence of UC 1, 5/105 while for CD it was o, 7/105 respectively. the purpose of this study was to investigate the incidenceof IBD in Primorsko-goranska county, Croatia. Conclusin:The incidece of IBD was significantly higher in our study in comparison tothe previously reported data from the study done i Zagreb, Croatian. In comparison to the studies done in other Mediterranean countries there was no difference shown in the incidence of CD while the incidence of UC was found to be lower in our study.
