Sažetak
A relatively low trade integration with the EU, as well as the decreasing share of advanced transition countries in Croatia's exports call for the establishing of export possibilities. The aim of the paper is to establish the most significant determinants of Croatia’ s exports to the CEEC. According to the gravity principle, the intensity of the relation between two economic entities will be as strong as their economic strength increases, and will gradually fall as the distance between them gets greater. Factors determining bilateral trade flows include potential supply of exports, potential demand of imports, trade resistance and structural factors. The highest value in the regression model is achieved by the structural variable, followed by the EU-dummy variable and distance. The lowest value among the estimated coefficients is achieved by Croatian GDP variable what is not surprising considering Croatian import fed growth and rising final consumption. The dynamics of GDP growth in CEEC produced a relatively strong and significant contribution to the increase in Croatian exports, while the population variable exerted negative influence. Distance between trade partners confirmed its trade-reducing effect. EU variable shows trade diversion effect of economic integration on countries not participating in it. The contribution of the common border between two countries confirms the importance of the pre-established social and economic relations. Structural variable did not realise significant influence on Croatian exports.
