Sažetak
Emotional intelligence is commonly defined as set of abilities to process emotion-laden information competently. Using model of emotional intelligence (Mayer & Salovey, 1997), sixteen self-reported scales with appropriate psychometric properties was constructed. The factor-analytic studies revealed three latent dimensions: a) perception and understanding emotion, b) expression and labeling emotion, and c) managing and regulating emotion. The structure closely resembles the factor structure reported in studies using different types of scales (self-reported and ability based) within the same model of emotional intelligence (Mayer & Salovey, 1997). To avoid misunderstanding and critics addressed to self-rating scales and their ability to assess intelligence, scale is therefore named Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire (ESCQ). In the sample of 1460 high school students from several studies, basic psychometric properties were estimated. The results showed as follows: a) confirmatory factor analysis revealed good indexes of fit (GFI=0, 87 AGFI=0, 86, RMSEA=0, 055) for three factor solution, b) reliability of each subscale (Alpha=0, 85 ; Alpha=0, 80 Alpha=0, 72) are sufficiently good, c) correlations between subscales are positive (0, 40-0, 47), so it is possible to compute overall scores for ESCQ Alpha=0, 88).
