Sažetak
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Slovenian version of the Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire (ESCQ). The subjects (aged 19-24 yrs) were 178 students, two thirds were females. The factor structure of the ESCQ was found to be consistent with the three-factor structure established for the original questionnaire. The reliability of the total scale was highly satisfactory (ƒ Ñ ; ; = 0, 91) and Cronbach Alpha for the subscales ranged from 0.75 to 0.89. Discriminant validity of ESCQ and the five factor model of personality were examined: 37% of the variance of the ESCQ was explained by openness, extraversion and conscientiousness. Concurrent validity of the questionnaire was examined with some indicators of well-being. ESCQ correlated positively with Positive affect and negatively with Negative affect from PANAS scale. From all subjects, a total of 71 students filled out also the Satisfaction with Life Scale and the Ryffs Scales of Psychological Well-Being. Regression analyses revealed that the majority of the variance of the well-being scales could be explained by the subscale Ability to manage and regulate emotion. Although subscales Ability to express and label emotion and Ability to manage and regulate emotion are interrelated, they have different relations with some predictors. Ability to manage and regulate emotion but not Ability to express and label emotion is positively related to agreeableness, Personality growth and Purpose in life.
