Sažetak
Disc displacement (DD) is the most frequent form of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The purpose of this study is to determine the success in eliminating clinical symptoms at patients with DD after initial therapy applying the occlusal splint. 40 patients with a form of DD in at least one TMJ were included in this study. The diagnoses were given on the basis of clinical examinations and with magnetic resonance (MRI) of TMJ. The temporomandibular pain was evaluated with analogous visual scale (AVS). For initial treatment of all patients the fabrication of michigan splint (MS) was indicated. The most frequent symptoms felt by the patients were pain (97, 7% joint) and clicking (93% joints) in TMJ. There is no significant difference between patiens classified by sex or the form of DD depending on lower or higher evaluation of pain by AVS (p>0, 05). Applying MS a reducing of pain wasachieved wich is not considerably frequent at any form of DD (pain is still present at 36 - 22% TMJs). DD affirmed by MRI is considered to be the cause of pain and other dysfunctional symptoms in the masticatory system. MS is the most frequent reversible and unspecific form of initial therpay of patients with TMD. Although a normal functioning of the TMJ is achieved (no pain), it means painless clicking in the TMJ, no significant statistical frequency of pain is shown as to the subjectively greater intensity of pain before treatment.
