Sažetak
Abstract Background and purpose: Syntaxonomic research of the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea meadows in northwest Croatia has identified a distinct group of relevés in very moist habitats, which is described as a new association in this paper. Methods: The field research was conducted in accordance with the Zürich-Montpellier School. The group of relevés described in this paper as a new association was obtained by classification using the agglomerative method called Ward's Method, with the Relative Euclidean distance as the distance measure. A data set of 450 relevés from northwest Croatia was used in the classification process, while in the identification of the indicator species the "u value hypergeometric adj" was applied. Results and conclusion: A new association is described in this paper under the name Oenantho silaifoliae-Alopecuretum pratensis, within the Deschampsion caespitosae alliance, Molinietalia order and Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class. The meadows of this association develop in very moist habitats, most often in terrain microdepressions in stream valleys, which are exposed to occasional floods. The soil is deep and compact ; belonging, according to its texture, to the clay and loam groups, and it is rich in nitrates and humus. It is a non-carbonate or low-carbonate soil, with a moderately acidic reaction. The stands of this association are used semi-extensively as hay meadows, mown two to three times a year. The association can be recognised by the dominance of Alopecurus pratensis, and by its indicator species: Oenanthe silaifolia, Gratiola officinalis, Iris pseudacorus, Galium palustre s. lat., Ranunculus flammula, Carex vulpina, Trifolium hybridum, Lotus tenuis, Leucojum aestivum, Taraxacum palustre agg., Ranunculus sardous, Myosotis scorpioides agg.
