Sažetak
Lightweight structure concepts play an important role both in automobile and transport industries and in the manufacture of modern machine tool parts as well. Modern high dynamic machine tools use feed drives capable of high speeds, acceleration and deceleration. It is also important to damp potential vibrations that may occur during the machining in order to obtain high quality workpiece surface. One of recent solutions in the construction of high dynamic machine tool parts is the use of metal foams as materials for fast-moving elements. Metal foams are low density materials with high strength and rigidity as well as good damping capacity. Therefore, their application in the manufacture of modern dynamic machine tool parts is the object of intensive research. This paper presents the results of researches into the production technology of profiles filled with aluminium foam carried out at the Foundry Chair at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb.
