Sažetak
Science in Croatia is organized at six universities, 30 scientific institutes, seven polytechnics, 20 schools of higher learning, academies of art and institutions of higher religious education, mostly financed through 1820 scientific research projects governed by three-year contracts. Being part of a global research network makes influence on local science and new communication patterns affect local scientific research. Smaller countries like Croatian have difficulties making their scientific work known. In 1997 Croatian Scientific Bibliography (CROSBI) was created intended to collect data about all research publication by Croatian authors who were formerly scattered across local bibliographies and catalogues, national bibliographies of various countries and (non)commercial databases. Today CROSBI provides current, comprehensive and accurate information about scientific output in Croatia, information about ongoing research projects supported by the Croatian Ministry of science, education and sports, information about publications dealing with specific subject fields, a full-text archive of Croatian publications and linking tool for accurate personal, project or institutional bibliography. CROSBI improves the communication between scientists and promotes Croatian scientists through new interface in English. There are 115435 records in the CROSBI bibliography at the present (April 2005) and more then 2400 full-text papers. In the next period we want CROSBI to be based on OAI (Open Access/Archives Initiative) principles that provide a framework to facilitate the discovery of content in distributed archives. Beside the long term goal of collecting more digital objects (full-text papers), we plan to make the collection OAI compliant. The data will be converted into XML compatible, UTF-8 compliant metadata available for harvesting in Simple Dublin Core metadata format. The visibility of CROSBI archive will be improved as wideness and frequency of the usage.
