Sažetak
In the children population dog bites injuries mainly affect the head, face and neck and as such they represent a relevant socio-medical problem. Most of the injuries do not require hospitalization but due to possible serious complications, like injured respiratory system, main blood vessels, cranial nerves, or facial bone fractures, they require thorough treatment. The data presented in the paper are the result of processing the data from the Antirabies ambulance of the Epidemiology Department of the Public Health Institute in Zadar, Croatia. In order to avoid this kind of injuries it is necessary to adopt new preventive measures on the behavior of children when in vicinity of dogs. If injuries on the head, face and neck do occur, in order to achieve the most appropriate esthetic and functional result, the first choice for the treatment would be the prompt reconstruction and the primary surgical treatment of the injury.
