Sažetak
Kyoto conference is setting the targets and limits for CO2 emission. In the same time energy consumption is increasing, especially in developing world. If developing countries attain even a moderate fraction of energy consumption of developed countries, this will lead into large increase of total CO2 emission, unless there is a strong increase of energy production by CO2 non-emitting sources. Of two major candidates, solar and nuclear energy, the second is technically and economically much closer to ability to accomplish the task. The requirements for a large-scale use of nuclear energy and the role of IAEA are discussed.
