Sažetak
Glycoproteins, as components of cell membranes, are a determining factor for intracellular recognition. They have multiple roles in biological systems. They participate in the control of cell growth, act as enzymes or hormones and they are responsible for specific immunoreactions1. Isolation or synthesis of glycopeptides as main parts of glycoproteins, and their modification are very important parts in the field of organic chemistry. Peptidoglycan monomer (PGM, (beta-D-GlcNAc-(1->4)-MurNAc-L-Ala-D-izoGln-((L)-mezo-A2pm-(L)-D-Ala-D-Ala))) is the basic isolated repeating glycopeptide unit of a peptidoglycane originating from Brevibacterium divericatum2. It was shown to be an immunostimulating, anti-tumor and anti-metastatic agent3. The main issue of this work was to prepare conjugates of alpha-D-mannose and different polyfunctional alcohols since it is known that some cell membranes posses receptors for mannose, N-acetyl-glucosamine and other monosaccharides. These conjugates will be further linked to PGM in order to study the possible changes in its biological properties when immobilized through the sugar on a cell membrane. 1. H. Kunz, Angew. Chem. Int.
