Sažetak
Doppler sonography in neurology has been one of the earliest applications of ultrasound in medicine. Since its introduction 30 years ago, sophisticated technology and computerisation made possible the use of ultrasound in a number of indications. Having in mind that stroke and dementia are major epidemiological and social problems in modern society, ultrasound became an irreplaceable method in the evaluation of vascular pathology. Duplex sonography of extracranial cerebral arteries, transcranial Doppler, transcranial colour duplex sonography and TCD detection of cerebral emboli have a major contribution in early detection of patients with high stroke risk, in this way diminishing morbidity and mortality of cerebrovascular diseases.
