Sažetak
The objective of this study was chemical and radiological characterization of fly and bottom ash produced in thermo electric power plant of ex "Jugovinil" factory deposited in the Kaštel Gomilica region. High activity of naturally occurring radionuclides 238U, 235U and 226Ra present in the ash was the reason for its classification as TENORM (Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material). Besides, this material was highly enriched in heavy metals also. 33 ash samples were analyzed. Bioavailable fraction of the ash was estimated by conducting different leaching tests. Most of the measured heavy metals were 3-4 times and total U was almost 40 times enriched in ash compared to surrounding soil. It was found that over 37 % of total U could be removed from the ash by sea water.
