Sažetak
The transmission is certainly one of the most important components of a high-speed tracked vehicle. It marks considerably both the shape of the vehicle and its capacity. It influences the overall dimensions and the weight of both the power train and the vehicle, and has an important role in the transformation of the available power into vehicle performances. Its complexity comes from its multiple roles, one of them being the control of the vehicle. Non-kinematical steering system started developing as an endeavor of reconciliation of the conflicting requirements concerning different roles and limits imposed on the transmission. Based on the use of friction components – brakes and clutches, with the development of the wet friction technology, the non-kinematical steering system has become more and more performing. Different kinematical solutions have been trying to take as much advantage as possible from the friction technology. The new Transmission with Independent Turning Radii concept excels the use of brakes and clutches making them operate in the most favorable regimes. To the exceptional power density of the power train achieved by the transmission concept with two lateral boxes applied on the T72 tank, the TITR transmission concept added remarkable steering ability with high efficiency and exceptional effectiveness in steering proven in comprehensive field testing. The paper gives an overview of some different transmission solutions with non-kinematical steering system underlying the evolution process in their main characteristics – efficiency and effectiveness in steering. It emphasizes the influence of the arrangement of the kinematical (fixed) radii on the efficiency and effectiveness. Field testing results of the effectiveness in steering, i.e. ability to follow a path of different transmission solutions are compared, one of them being the TITR transmission. The testing results show the influence of a kinematical (fixed) radius on the stability and security in guiding the vehicle along a path and the efficiency of the transmission in steering conditions. The paper shows several solutions of advanced power drive system for high speed vehicles based on the TITR transmission system.
