Sažetak
Although the greenhouse whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum was quite common in European greenhouses in the past, since 1970 it has only really been important in tomato, cucumber and gerbera flowers. According to the previous research, whiteflies were controlled in Croatia with insecticides, mehanical application of yellow sticky traps as well as biological protection, mainly in the trials. Combined protection measures should be applied in an intesive gerbera production aiming to achieve successful control of larvae and adult stages. Apart from spraying insecticides and addition of agents via irrigation systems it is necessary, while using sticky traps, to include biological measures within control strategies. In the period 1997-2002 whitefly monitoring was performed in the greenhouses of D.G. Promet in Magadenovac. A striking attack of T. Vaporariorum was reported on the red-coloured variety 'Vino' and the purple variety 'Twigy'. Control trials involved insecticides as follows: imidacloprid (Confidor SL 200) at a concentration of 0, 15% (foliar spraying and drip irrigation system), Verticillium lecani (Vertimec) at 0, 05% and 0, 075%, bifenthrin (Talstar 10 SC) at 0, 05%, methmyl (Lannate 20 L) at. 0, 25 %, pirimiphos-methyl (Actellic 50 EC) at. 0, 1 and biological control with the products EN-STRIP ( Encarsia formosa) and ENERMIX (Encarsia formosa and Eretmocerus eremicus). The most effective protection was obtained by biological preparation application combined with yellow sticky traps that contributed to early pest control.
