Sažetak
Although insulin is accumulated in the pancreas as zinc containing hexamer, it is active as a monomer that does not contain zinc. Seventy years ago it was discovered that other metals (Co, Ni and Cd) can replace the zinc ion 1 , but so far only one paper describing coordination of some other metal  2 in insulin has been published so far. Single crystals of the insulin derivatives with copper have been prepared by the hanging drop vapour diffusion crystallisation method at pH=6, 4. 2-Cu insulin derivative crystallizes in the trigonal system (with hexagonal axes) with the cell parameters a = 81, 560 Å ; ; , c = 33, 747 Å ; ; . Structure was refined to the uncertainty factor R=0, 1581 for 24899Fo>4 (Fo) i R(free)=0, 2096 for 1348Fo>4 (Fo) using SHELXL97 program. 2-Cu hexamer contains two copper ions octahedrally coordinated by three His B10/ His D10 NE2 imidazole ligands and three water molecules.
