Sažetak
Considerable variation of wheat grain yields in the Eastern Croatia among years for 30-year (1961-1990) period and for 1996-2003 period were found. Increased trends of wheat yields for three-decades period (means 2.81, 4.09 and 5.26 t/ha, respectively) is possible to explain by improvement of crop and soil management practices as well as creating of high-yielding cultivars. Weather differences among individual growing seasons are more responsible factor of wheat yields for short period. For example, in three more favorable seasons (MFS=year of harvest 1984, 1988 and 1989) mean wheat yield in the region was 5.53 t/ha, while in three less favorable seasons (LFS= year of harvest 1978, 1980 and 1982) it was 4.22 t/ha or 24% lower. Precipitation in growing season (October-June: 3-year means of four localities) was higher in the LFS (584 and 492 mm, for the LFS and MFS, respectively). Since 1996 wheat yield variation among years as well as its dependences on water regime has similar trend as in the previous tested period. For example, yield differences in the region for the growing seasons (year of harvest) 1999 and 2000 (3.62 and 5.00 t/ha, respectively) could be in connection with precipitation quantities (547 and 387 mm, respectively).
