Sažetak
Splines determined by the kernel of the differential operator D^2(Dx^\alpha D)are known to be useful in the solution of singular boundary-value problems of the form Dx^\alpha Du = f(x, u) ; more recently, they have also been proven as a valuable tool for solving Volterra-type integral equations. The most successfull method seems to be the collocation method in which a numerical solution is represented as linear combination of B-splines in such singular spline spaces. We investigate the perils of numerical calculations involved in the construction of such splines, and give a stable algorithm that performs well for rational coefficients \alpha in (0, 1).
