Sažetak
During the last twenty years, the number of studies dealing with the families of alcoholics has increased. The excessive drinking of alcoholic drinks and alcoholism disturb the quality of life of the individual, of the family and of the society as a whole. The family disturbances originating from alcoholism manifest very early in the families of alcoholics. Various studies from the field of relationships in the alcoholic´s family have stressed the particular importance of the children of alcoholics and the development of psychopathology during their growth and development. In this article, we have tried to prove the presence of possible behavioural changes among the children of alcoholics during their development. The study included the families of alcoholics treated at the Clinic of Psychiatry, Alcoholism and Other Addictions, Sestre Milosrdnice University Hospital in Zagreb (N=190) and to the subjects randomly chosen from a company in Zagreb (N=180). The investigations has been carried out by means of a questionnaire focused at the possible presence of psychosocial disturbances among children divided in two developmental phases. From the results obtained, it is obvious that the children of alcoholics show more problems in their psychosocial development. Night micturition, frequent crying, nutritional disturbances, schooling problems and the early first encounter with alcoholic drink are the most frequent problems observed among these children. Considering everything that has been mentioned, we conclude that the problem of alcoholism should be viewed as a problem of the entire family and that the treatment should include all family members.
