Sažetak
Since 1960 many different intra- and interspecific hybridisation of two-needle pines have been carried out at the Department of Forest Genetics and Dendrology of the Faculty of Forestry in Zagreb, Croatia. F1 hybrids, backcrossed plants, F2 hybrids and trispecies hybrids have been successfully produced. Special attention was given to the problem of incompatibility between Pinus nigra Arn. and Pinus sylvestris L. and to the production of different families of their rarely produced hybrids. Fifteen different experimental plots were established on two localities. The aim of such experimental plots was to preserve the gene pool diversity of different pine hybrid combinations, to provide the possibility to observe and to study them as well as to compare their growth rate with parental species. In this article three field plot experiments were presented in details with different hybrid plants. The first plot was planted in 1981 with different hybrid families produced by crossing P. nigra with P. densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. The second with F1 hybrids of P. x nigrosylvis Vid. produced as seedlings and by their rooted cuttings was established in 1985 - 1987. The third plot with F2 hybrid plants of P. x nigrosylvis was established in 1987. Best average growth rate has been shown by plants of P. sylvestris L. and hybrid combinations with P. sylvestris. Some individual F2 hybrids have better growth rate than the average best families, most probably due to the transgression. Such individuals are over three standard deviations higher than the average of the family.
