Sažetak
Acquired ichtyiosis may be an early manifestation in some systemic diseases (eg. cancer (lung, breast, ovary, cervix), Hodgkin disease, sarcoidosis, Kaposi sarcoma, leprosy. thyroid disease, nutrition disorders, HIV infection, etc.) and the use of certain medications (cholesterol-lowering agent, cimetidine clofazimine). A 25-year old men was admitted to our Department with a 2 months history of symmetrical lamellar hyperpigmented scaling, particularly on the extensor surfaces of the extremities and lateral aspects of his trunk and back. Hyperkeratosis was presented on the palms and soles with a painful fissuring. His skin looked normal at birth. Atopic conditions cannot be found in any family member beside his mother who had mild hand dermatitis in her youth, but free of symptoms at the moment. Laboratory results revealed low level of vitamin A in the serum and elevated levels of IgE. Histological findings confirmed vulgar ichthyosis associated with atopic dermatitis. PRICK test reveled allergy to many inhalator allergens. Internal diseases and malignancies were excluded. He was treated with local keratolitics and neutral ointments together with vitamin A preparations. Recognition of these conditions is necessary to institute therapy that will reduce discomfort experienced by affected individuals.
