Sažetak
Regionalism has long history and tradition on the Croatian territory. Current regional character is based on the professional and political criterion. Thus, the Croatian territory is divided in two supraregions: Pannonian and Mediterranean, four macro regions: Slavonian, Central Croatian, Primorje - Lika and Dalmatian and in 21 county regional units. In economic terms, counties do have certain regional characteristics, but not in its entirety, because in Croatia, high degree of decentralization is still present in the economic decision-making process. In terms of development, the Republic of Croatia is not a homogeneous entity with equally developed areas. In this paper we explore relative development of Croatian counties by measuring developmental deviations of certain counties from the Croatian average. The goal is to define a starting point for the conduct of developmental policy of the Republic of Croatia. The research of regional developmental imbalance is conducted by means of 26 indicators which are assigned to four categories: state of infrastructural development, development of the global human component, level of the living standard and global effectiveness of the economy. The first two groups of indicators enable the analysis of the advancement of some of the key developmental factors on which economic and social advancement depend, while the other two groups reflect developmental results of the particular county. After the analysis of developmental deviations, counties are classified into four groups. The results of this research indicated significant regional developmental disparities. Thus, basic guidelines for conduct of regional developmental policy in the Republic of Croatia are suggested in the conclusion of this paper, recognizing the necessity to coordinate Croatian policy with the regional policy of the European Union.
