Sažetak
The storm surge and subsequent seiche oscillations observed in the Adriatic Sea in December 1997 are studied by analysing the time series of sea level elevation and meteorological parameters collected at several stations along the eastern coast of the basin. The meteorological situation which generated the storm surge is outlined in connection with the sea level fluctuations. The decay time of the fundamental free oscillation mode is estimated by means of two different methods. Although respectively consistent with previous estimates made with comparable methods, their results differ systematically from each other. Possible explanations for such differences are proposed, but numerical models are required for a verification.
