Sažetak
This paper documents how reliability technology that has provenuseful in the nuclear industry can be applied by the telecommunications industry to maintain and/or enhance the reliability of its systems (for energy handling) within telecommunication plants. Unavailability of diesel generators used for on-site emergency power supply in telecommunications plants has been evaluated using FaultTree (FT) technique. Such technique is found adequate to calculate time-dependent unavailability and reliability for diesel generators systems used as a backup system for the commmercial electric power system. Major values of FT analysis are: 1. assesing the unavailability and reliability of a diesel generators system ; 2. detectnig weak points in system design and operations ; 3. optimising system design with respect to availability ; and 4. providing system engineers with insight into the (normal and abnormal) behaviour of the system. To this aim, the system analysis method and computer code have been developed.
