Sažetak
Two year research has carried out at the experimetal field of the Tobacco Institute Zagreb in Pitomača. The trial was set up on luvisol ; typical for the tobacco growing area in Croatia. The trial was set up according to the block method with four replications. Rates of 0, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kg N ha-1 were applied in fertilization. In both years, as the rate of nitrogen increased from 40 to 50 kg N ha-1 average yield and lenght and wide of middle leaf also increased, but usualy estimated quality of cured leaf decreased. At the same time, with the increased fertilization (> 40 kg N ha-1) the content of reducing sugars decreased.
