Sažetak
A trial with haricot bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) - bush type - was carried out in order to determine the response of the variety Mexican 142 to various planting dates (June 20, 27 ; July 4, 11 and 18, respectively) and various plant densities (20, 40, 60, 70 and 80 plants m-2, respectively) under subtropical conditions. The trial was carried out on ferralsol rhodic soil type, medium deep, in the Horro Alleltu region, 40 km north-west from Nekemte in 1987 and 1988. In this area, the haricot bean production is questionable because of the diseases Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, etc), but the Mexican 142 variety was temporarily accepted as a more resistant variety with acceptable colour (white). Planting dates and plant densities were found to be more complex than it seemed because of the diseases, water-soil erosion and time of harvesting (soil compaction, scattering of grain). For the time being, planting from the end of June to the middle of July at plant density of 40 plants m-2 is recommended. Longer trials as well as their larger number, including partially chemical plant protection and more resistant varieties of the erectum type are necessary.
