Sažetak
The influence of fertilization with different amounts of Cl in the fertilizer mixture on the yield and quality of Virginia tobacco, of the Drava sort, was investigated on the experimental field of the Tobacco Institute Zagreb in Pitomaca during the years 1986-1988. The experiment was set up according to the block method with four repetitions. The tobacco in the experiment was fertilized with 180 kg/ha K2O, 80 kg/ha P2O5 and 20 kg/ha N. Fertilization with phosphorus and nitrogen was carried out with fertilizer formulations such as triplex and KAN. Constant fertilization with potassium was carried out with K2SO4 and KCl in a ratio of 1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 0:1, in the spring of all three years. In 1987 and 1988, the experiment also included fertilization with potassium added as KCl in the autumn. From 15th June to 1st August of 1987 and 1988, during vegetation, the Cl- content in the soil was analyzed every 15 days. The yield was found to increase significantly with an incorpored application of KCl only in 1988 (for 7% fertilization with 75% KCl and 25% K2SO4 compared to the application of only K2SO4). No significant differences were determined in the price of dried tobacco leaves fertilized with different amounts of K2SO4. The differences in the nicotine and reducing sugars content were also not significant. The chlorine content in the dried tobacco leaves increased significantly as the amounts of KCl in the fertilizer increased. An analysis of the soil for chlorine content during vegetation revealed the same regularity. Considering the Cl- in the dried leaves, the research results indicate that under the conditions prevailing in the north-western part of Croatia, Virginia tobacco may be fertilized with not more than 40 kgCl-/ha.
