Sažetak
The aim of the study was to determine the impact of genotype and existing cultural practices in the flue-cured growing area in Croatia on the yield and quality of tobacco. A field trial with three cultivars grown in intensive and extensive cultivation system (A&B), each system with and without irrigation (i.e. four productional models), was carried out. Statistically reliable differences among different cultivation models for all variables were found. The average yield of tobacco in the model A1 amounted to 2924 kg/ha, whereas for model B2, used as a check, the yield was 47% lower, or 1990 kg/ha. The value of production was even 58% higher in model A1 in comparison with B2 model. The visual characteristics of cured tobacco, the chemical composition and the sugar/nicotine ratio showed also significant differences among cultivation models. In the intensive cultivation a considerably greater revenue was obtained and the additional profit was well above additional costs. Research results have shown differences among cultivars within the same cultivation system, but greater differences between the same cultivars in different cultivation systems were found. Such results indicate that the cultivation system had a greater effect on yield, value and quality of tobacco than the genotype.
