Sažetak
Occupants in moisture-damaged houses often present respiratory symptoms and several studies point towards microbial growth as a possible causative agents. We tested in pilot experiments four different strains of Stachybotrys chartarum isolated from moldy rooms. Most S. Chartarum strains can produce several mycotoxins that are concentrated in the cells of the fungus but diffuse also into the growth medium. Acid phosphatase in AM, alkaline phosphatase in type II cells, MCP-l and oxidative damage in the range of 1-5 α g/ml endometabolites were studied. The results were similar in all four strains ; the highest toxicity was detected in strain 3 what was used in next experiments. I-day-old chick tracheas were maintained for 3 days in the culture and ceasing of ciliary beating was evaluated. The effect was time and dose dependent and the exometabolites were more active than the endometabolites. The AP positivity in type II cells after culturing with 5 ocg/ml of endometabolites or exometabolites dropped to 42.9 or 63.4% of the control, respectively. The acid phosphatase in AM at locg/ml represent only 50% of the control and at 5ocg/ml just 10%. Staining of type II cells with MPA showed dose dependent changes in the plasma membrane both after exo- and endometabolites. The results proved the toxic effects of S. Chartarum metabolites
