Sažetak
Classical swine fever (CSF)is one of the most important viral diseases of domestic pigs and wild boars. In Croatia, monitoring of wild boars has been carried out since 1999 and the viral prevalence has been determined. Since positive samples have been determined, from 2000 it is obligatory to send samples from all wild boar carcasses found in forests, as well as from hunted wild boars. Since then, 2434 samples have been tested for the presence of CSF virus of which 77 (3.1%) have shown to be positive. Furthermore, isolation and phylogenetic analysis has been performed and the CSF isolates have shown to be genetically closely related among each other, as well as to isolates derived from domestic pigs in Croatia. These results point out the importance of eradicating the disease in the wild boars since viral spreading to domestic pigs has been proven.
