Sažetak
This paper examines foreign direct investments (FDI) in the trade sector in Croatia. The research results indicate that FDI inflows had a profound impact on the Croatian trade sector. Authors found that there was a strong positive link between foreign green-field investments and gross fixed capital formation in the sector. Fierce foreign competition contributed to the convergence of business practices among companies, fast development of large stores, and dynamic structural changes within the sector. The main reasons why foreign retail and wholesale companies invested in Croatia were its favourable geographical and cultural proximity to EU countries, low inflation, and stable exchange rate.
