Sažetak
During the excavations of the Diomedes sanctuary on Cape Ploča near Rogoznica (Šibenik), Croatia, more than 130.000 artifacts have been excavated. Some 120.000 sherds are small flakes, unsuitable for any analysis of pottery forms or ornament. The extreme fragmentation, as well as sharp edges of the sherds, do suggest that most of the pottery was thrown into one place and never moved again ; another part has been removed, possibly by erosion or human action, so some fragments of the same vessele have been found on different areas and levels. The time span of pottery found at cape Ploča indicates that the sanctuary was founded in the later 4th cent. BC and that it was in use till the 1st cent. AD ('thin walled pottery' of North Italian production, some terra sigillata). The earliest datable fragments belong to skyphoi of Middle Gnathia ware (340-315/310 BC) ; other Gnathia ware, mostly later and mostly attribuable to Issean production, are well represented (470 sherds). There are some painted pots of local Adriatic styles, with some Black Gloss fragments of buff clay. The bulk of the fien wares are of buff clay, some with black gloss: skyphoi, kantharoi, bowls and plates, and some closed vessels. There are also relief mould-made decorated bowls, some of buff clay, but mostly made in grey clay. Moulds for making bowls have been found at Issa (Vis) and at Resnik (Kaštela), near Trogir, some 15 miles to the east from C. Ploča. There are also 641 amphora fragments ; among them only 3 rims of Graeco-Italic type were rpeserved ; some fragments may belong to Lamboglia 2 shapes.
