Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to present a model of pre-school teacher education founded on the constructivist theory of learning and teaching. Starting points for the creation of this model are:defining the roles of a teacher and related necessary competences ; determining the basic knowledge ; defining 'intial competence' and formulating the concept/process for teachers' promotion. This paper presents the findings of the research into the student perception of methodology of learning and teaching. The offered constructivist model as well as the research results point out the necessity of changes: changes at the level of goals and methodology of education ; changes in the forms of teaching and changes in mental organisation and presentation of knowledge. The expected outcome of this educational model is a pre-chool teacher - a reflexive practitioner, capable of making professional choices, of critical thinking and research during his/her own educational practice.
