Sažetak
Level of motoric and functional abilities presents very important factor in overall quality of a player or a team (Brittenham, 1995). This research was carried out in order to determine the differences between croatian and japanese basketball national teams. Both teams were tested at the begining of preparation period. 10 players form each team were tested in 11 variables. It is possible to say that these variables present good insight in basketball players’ fitness because they include most important motoric (explosive power, flexibility, agility, strenght, speed endurance) and functional abilities (VO2max), and anthropometric characteristics (body fat percentage). Multivariate and univariate variance analysis were used for statistical analysis. Results showed significant multivariate differences (0, 05) in conditioning status between national teams of Croatia and Japan. Univariate analysis showed significant differences (0, 05) only in two variables. Croatian players showed higher level of explosive power of throwing and repetitive strenght of trunk. In conclusion, results in these variables proved higher level of fitness of croatian players which can be explained by implementation of long-term programmed training and playing in top level basketball leagues.
