Sažetak
The paper investigates the notion and practical implications of sustainable development. Indeed, although, at least theoretically, created as an optimal alternative to the unbalanced development process of the twentieth century, concept of sustainability was brouhgt into into question in the practice of development management and planning. Having identified key factors for their successful implementation, the human being is pointed out as their common denominator. Therefore, aiming to improve development planning towards the sense of sustainability, the author analyses the human understanding and attitudes towards the development. Such aninsight leads the author to the analysis of the process of identification of basic, normative goals. At this point, the new concept of convergence in development is introduced as well as its impacts on the development planning and management are explained. Eventually, the author claims that the introduction of a new concept of convergence would lead not only to the sustainable development but also to the sustainable planning of the postmodern era.
