Sažetak
The analysis of types of defects, influence on the kinematic and dynamic characteristics, and conditions under which these occur, have been presented for the double Cardan mechanism (propeller shaft, double-joint Cardan mechanism) which consists of two Cardan joints connected by the intermediate shaft. In selecting the Cardan mechanism it is necessary when determining the desired lifetime to take into consideration four variables: transferable torsion moment, rotation velocity, required angle between the axes of the drive and driven shafts, as well as factors which consider the scope of application. However, apart from these variables, the lifecycle is greatly influenced also by the inaccuracies that occur during the production and assembling, changing the geometric conditions and thus also the characteristics of movement with relation to the ideal Cardan mechanism. During exploitation of the Cardan mechanism, due to incorrect maintenance and possible overload, defects occur on the elements of the Cardan mechanism that result in reduced safety and durability of the whole Cardan mechanism.
