Sažetak
The dispersal of mosquitoes from Kopački rit into the area of the city of Osijek was investigated throughout the period from April 28 to May 9, 2004 at 40 fixed locations. On the first day, 50, 000 adult mosquito species Aedes vexans, Ochlerotatus sticticus and Ochlerotatus caspius were marked with powdered fluorescent pigment and released from the southern part of Kopački rit. The sampling was done in the total area of the city (174.6 km2) in the following 10 days. Forty CO2 baited CDC traps were arranged from 1 km to 16 km away from the release point. A total of 582, 471 mosquitoes were collected and examined. The percentage of recaptured mosquitoes was 0.04% (55% of Oc. sticticus species), 95% of which in the first four days. The point samples were then interpolated using ordinary kriging in a GIS package ILWIS. Results are visualized using animations, which made it possible to evaluate spatial patterns of mosquito dynamics. The marked mosquitoes were found at 12 sites ranging in distance from 1 km to 10 km from the breeding sites. The sites with the highest rate of recaptured mosquitoes were those in the eastern part of the city. The wind speed had an influence on the mosquito dispersal (r = 0.82). The highest recapture rate was recorded at almost all sites between the sixth and the eighth sampling day. Information about the dispersal range of flooded mosquitoes is of major importance for mosquito control programs in Osijek area. It is necessary to continue the research so as to determine the mosquito treatment zone and to prevent adult mosquito emigration from their breeding sites into urban areas.
