Sažetak
The Institute for Public Health of Istria County in collaboration with the Department of Biology in Osijek collected mosquito samples in the area of Istria during the years 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The sampling was done by collecting larvae with a dipper and individually depending on the size of the breeding site, then the sampling of adult forms with CDC-traps and individually with aspirator during the highest mosquito activity. The sampling was performed at 70 locations on the west coast and the middle part of Istria. 1543 mosquitoes were found and 24 species of mosquitoes were determined. Unregulated groups were also systematically observed, such as malaria mosquito Anopheles maculipennis complex, which could be represented with few species (not determinated) and Culex pipiens complex, represented with at least 2 forms and known as a dominating species in the urban centres and all small breeding sites. Except for Culex pipiens, the Culiseta longiareolata species is found at many places in Istria. The wood of Motovun is a special little zoo-garden for mosquitoes with 9 species of larval and adult forms of mosquitoes observed. A special attention was given to finding Aedes albopictus species which has not been observed yet. The presentation puts forward the question about the intensity of research or whether this species can be found in Istria at all.
