Sažetak
Teaching finite elements to undergraduate structural engineers is divided in two steps, two connected courses. The first step is a course of type: How to make finite elements. This course gives an introduction to variational formulation of standard structural analysis problems. The course is generally focused on derivation of stiffness matrix for structural analysis (beam bending and plate bending) and heat conduction problems. The application to dynamics, fluid mechanics and 3D problems is described just briefly. In the excercise part of the course, the point is given on numerical linear algebra (solving the systems of equations), numerical integration and complete calculation of simple beam bending and plate bending numerical examples. The second step is a course of type: How to use finite elements. The idea of this course is to educate the students for using commercial software. The main topic of this course is modelling a real behaviour of the structures and interpretation of numerical results calculated by standard structural analysis software packages.
