Sažetak
Marino Tartaglia masterd the most important tendencies in the history of 20th centurypainting, while his works are still today exceptionaly alive in challenging, appreciated in an uninterrupted and fruitful contact with the public. He respondedto the various challenges of his time and yet managed to retain his individuality and was able to shape a system taking into account small shiftsand paying homage to the direct approach. Thoghtful and speculative, but never dogmatic and rigid, hi navigated with panache among the dominant tendencies, and various styles with a mind and a role of his own, now compulsory in any survey of Croatian art. Tatarglia's revision moved from expresionism to intimism , from glaring juxtapositions of chromatic contrasts to tonal modeling with entharalling efect. He aded El Greco and Tintoretto to his references points, while in 1920s he found the decisive influence and spiritual guideline in Cezanne's creative experience, in his crep construction and subtle color modulations After steying in Provence in the late 1920'sTartaglia discoverd personal registersin his use of colour in his lazure applicationof pigment and binderachived subtle iridescence.
