Sažetak
Eastern Croatia is the grain the production region of the country and its soils are more or less suitable for the growing of arable crops. About half of state production of corn and wheat has been grown in this region although it occupies only about 20% of state territory. Main soil types of the Eastern Croatia are chernozem degraded, luvisol, fluvisol, humoglay and pseudogley. There have been found considerable difference of arable crop yields among different soil types and among different growing seasons. Share of degraded soils is higher in the western part of the region with adequate influences on yields are associated with properties of soils( for example, humus contents, nutritional status, texture, bulk density, porosity, water content, infiltration rates etc.). The aim of this study was to estimate by soil testing the degree of degradation of four soil types and their suitability for spring crop growing, especially under drought stress.
