Sažetak
Croatian Painting of the 20th Century in the Light of Art Historical Research Research on Croatian painting of the 20th century has so far given evident, yat insufficient results. Fifty years ago sice the first individual analyses of contemporary painting and its protagonists have begun, our knowlidge of personal contribution of particular artists, of the authenticstylistic phenomenain visual arts that are specific for this regionas well as of European contemporary analogies, hes been significantly broadened, deepended, and revised. Attributive and monographic methods of research and interpretative explications have developed. The aim of this artzicles is to present very briefly the results of art historical investigation regarding the reconstruction and evaluation of one of the most vital and most authentic periods of Cratian painting. Zhe survey of scholarly activities will encompass their earliest phase, frome the lonesome and eprsonal efforts of the 1050s in the framework of the Department of Art History et the Faculty of Philosophy, Zagreb (as well as the even earlier, uncritical studies), to the organised forms of research. Besides the scholarly and research motivation, an important factor were the exhibition programmes of galleries. The publishing of the Monographs has been significantly present only sice recent times. Author has chosen to elaborate only ceratin hypotheses, namelythose which obvipusly re-evalueted certain crucial phenomena and which established, from their detached ange, evaluetive judgements that often differed from those reached by contemporary art criticism under the influence of ideology or the aesthetic criteria of the time. This presentation has been primarly based upon the positivist approach. Theoretical and methodological aspects have been separately treated.
