Sažetak
Banks are part of the everyday life and have the recognizable characteristics, and are thus rarely precisely defined. Under the pressure of numerous changes in finance and under the pressure of competition, modern banks change their traditional characteristics and transform themselves into the complex financial conglomerates for offering all kinds of financial services. The paper analyses and precisely defines the traditional bank from the theoretical and practical views. It offers a wider definition in the context of the concept of “ credit institutions" in the EU, as well as draws attention to the process of modern banks' transformation from the depository-credit into full service financial institutions, all of which requires their redefinition.
