Sažetak
This work builds up a complete procedure to test the hypothesis on equality of two business performance indicators. The work originates from the practical need to analyse and compare the performance of all manufacturing enterprises in the Split-Dalmatian County in 2002. The data basis consists of a wide scope of performance indicators for 1744 manufacturing enterprises, among which three are selected as representative ones: return on equity, degree of indebtedness and current liquidity coefficient. As the entire basic set is the issue of our interest, we find that the enterprises are markedly heterogeneous in terms of the chosen indicators. Therefore previous to comparison and testing they have to be made homogeneous. For that purpose the entire basic set is divided into three sub-sets: "incomparable", "losers" and "winners". After such homogenization, we define the average performance measure and average deviation coefficient as the bases for the procedure of comparison and testing of performance indicators. Aiming to make a definitive decision in the testing procedure the test value and confidence interval of null-hypothesis are defined. The paper also contains the complete procedure of hypothesis testing based on illustrative practical example. Two manufacturing enterprises from the "winners" sub-set are randomly chosen and the comparative analysis of their performance indicators: return on equity, degree of indebtedness and current liquidity coefficient is provided.
