Sažetak
Recently we followed the zinc dependent hepato-thymic axis in young and old hepatectomised mice. The existence of a relationship between liver and thymus, in which zinc may play a key role, has been suggested. Partial hepatectomy (pHx) performed on young mice induced thymic hypoplasy 48 hrs after operation, with reduction in thymic cellularity and accumulation of zinc in thymic tissue. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the zinc status 48 hrs after pHx performed on athymic mice. In this purpose, pHx (1/3) was performed on 1,5 month old male, nude mice, using surgical procedure under aether anaesthesia. The animals were sacrified 48 hrs after operation, and structural and biochemical parameters were tested. 48hrs after pHx the following changes between treated and intact animals regarding zinc and zinc-binding proteins are found: a) in liver tissue: zinc accumulation in pHx animals, which positive correlates with liver metallothionein levels; b) in plasma: significant decrease of total zinc concentration in pHx animals in comparison with sham and intact animals; c) in peripheral tissue: lower zinc concentration in the kidney and muscle of pHx. Immunohistochemical studies of liver tissue. 48 hrs after pHx we noticed appereance of oncoprotein c-erbB-2, as a proliferativ marker, did not show any changes in comparison with intact liver tissue. Regarding zhe shift of zinc from the periphery toward liver which compensatory grows, athymic mice respond more pronounced than normal animals, suggesting that the zinc balance within the organism is partly regulated by the thymic gland.
