Sažetak
The comprehension of complex scientific texts requires elaborate study strategies. The aim of the study was to investigate the relation between different aspects of strategic reading and comprehension of difficult scientific text. The participants were undergraduate psychology students. In addition to text comprehension task, summarization task and question making task were used as on-line measures of strategic reading. Self-explanation task was used as measure of text processing and a strategic reading questionnaire was applied as a measure of perceived use of strategies during reading. Results showed that reading comprehension is significantly related only with on-line measures of reading strategies. However, cluster analysis showed different pattern of competence in strategic reading and actual strategy use. Largest group of students posses high level of procedural knowledge of strategies, but they don’ t actually use them. These results indicate that efficient strategy use was of central importance for comprehension of difficult scientific text.
