Sažetak
The paper is a result of the preliminary research done on the role of Croatian parishes in Canada, from their beginnings in the late 1940's to the present day, not only as religious but also as socio-cultural organizations which make possible ethnic and cultural identity retention of Croats in the diaspora. The paper provides an insight into the historic, socio-cultural and economic background underlying the foundation of Croatian catholic parishes in Canada. Among the various forms of activity in regard to preserving Croatian ethnic consciousness, the most significant one pertains to the field of education in Croatian parishes, which constitutes the second topic of the this paper.
