Sažetak
In Croatia, one can find 19 vascular departments with 43 surgeons situated in six University centres and 13 Regional hospitals. Vascular departments are geographically equally distributed in the long and narrow country where 52, 3% of population die from cardiac and vascular disorders. Of these, 31, 2% are cardiac, 33% cerebrovascular and 35, 8% peripheral vascular patients. There are 2700 amputation per year, and 1900 patients with critical limb ischaemia. According to the current epidemiological data, about 14 000 patients with AA live in Croatia, and out of these, 1800 aneurysms/year need surgery. Real need for CEA/CAS is 2700 per year. Education can be summerized by program of specialization in vascular surgery which was issued 10 years ago.
