Sažetak
The world of work in Croatia is changing, and working life is changing too due to globalization, global competition, changes in the regulatory strategies, changes in enterprise structures and associated technology changes. The complexities are many and big: work is polarized- some people get better, freer jobs, while others see their work becoming worse. Croatia is now increasingly controlling traditional hazards (such as chemical , physical and biological hazards) and at the same time increasingly struggling with new hazards such as psychological stress and hazards emanating from poor ergonomics. Occupational medicine comprises the interactions between work and working life on the one hand and health and disease on the other, promotion of the health and fitness of the working population, the prevention, diagnosis, and assessment of disorders caused by work and the environment and actual occupational diseases, the prevention of work – related health hazard including individual and company health counseling, the avoidance of unpleasant or dangerous working conditions, and rehabilitation measures enabling a return to work. Obstacles of the implementation of occupational health include lack of knowledge, fear of cost, shortage of financial resources, fragmentation of work (increase of SMEs, informal sector, self-employed, unemployment), separation of health and labour sector.
